A series of amulets carved out of different minera

A series of amulets carved out of different minerals I’ve been collecting over time — amber, calcite, tourmaline, howlite, lapis lazuli, ruby, to name a few. A little nod to memento mori, and the baroque.
I made them in Florence before coming to Lisbon for summer. Some of the stones were sourced from @bramanti.firenze — the best place to find special ones.

Yesterday I headed to Venice to see The Cabinet of Wonders, an exhibition hosted by @museopalazzogrimani. The Wunderkammer theme has inspired me for a long time now, and I’ve been documenting that here — juxtaposing some images of my work with those from this stunning exhibition.

As the introduction to the show recaps, it’s about process, passion, and perspective — the contrast between historical and contemporary contexts, between treasures of the past and reimagined wonders of the present.

A couple of weeks ago I visited the Giardino dell’Iris, open only briefly each year while the irises are in bloom. It’s one of those quietly magical places I return to for inspiration.
A few years back, I designed a print for a client using sketches from this very garden.

Still thinking about the @lecolevancleefarpels talk on Renaissance jewels, I wandered through the @uffizigalleries for inspiration. I love how paintings from that era conceal meaning in the smallest details—like a Capricorn-shaped pendant in a Raphael, symbolizing fidelity, or coral beads in a Bronzino, once thought to guard little ones from harm.
